On Fridays, I bring you the best work and life tips and tricks I found this week. And we call it Four For Friday. Welcome! Whether you’re working from home in a separate room, in a corner of your house, or at the kitchen table, that space is the hub of your business, and where you need to thrive and survive. Here’s four tips for pulling it off. A lot these overlap in advice, but they each have at least one new take on the home office experience:
The Millenial Bull – How to Be Productive A.F. while working From Home – Learn to set the timer on your coffeemaker. You paid for it. My personal addition to that advice is that, since it stays usually stays on for two hours, pick a two hour window that you KNOW you’re going to wake up. I usually wake up between 6:00 – 6:30 (don’t @me), exercise, and then grab coffee, so I set the timer for 6:30. I don’t need it when I wake up, but I sure as hell will need a cup or two when I get back.
Coming up Roses – 13 tips for Getting + Staying Productive While Working From Home – Ooh, a work playlist! And I also love her take on how to tell your friends and family what your availability is during the day. Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you’re not WORKING, you know? I run into that a lot.
The Work at Home Woman – No Pajamas! How To Be Professional When Working From Home – I’m laughing right now because I am, of course, typing this while wearing pajamas. That being said, I do like her take on scheduling your day and staying reachable. This article is a few years old, but if you haven’t synched your work email to your phone or grabbed a google voice number yet, it’s time. I know that a lot of you haven’t.
Wake up and Blog – 10 Work From Home Tips To Help You Stay Productive. Choose your working hours. Get out of the house. I recommend choosing your working hours based on when you plan to get out of the house.
