Branding group with cell phones

On Fridays, I bring you this week's best work-life integration tips, and tricks. And we call it Four for Friday. Welcome!

The Rules of Branding That Were Meant To Be Broken

Fast Company -The women running for president are breaking the rules of branding. A really interesting article about how the new presidential candidates are showcasing their individuality through the use of color in their campaign branding. Fast Company makes some very good points about how celebrating diversity and your unique place in the market is the new black. Or in this case, the new Red, White and Blue!

The Quote Of The Week

"Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What is important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually the confidence will follow.” - Carrie Fisher

I miss her.

The Mixed - Up Message

Inc - The More You Look At Your Phone, The  Less You Smile. Hmm.  I feel that the harmful effect of cell phones on human interaction is overrated. If you've ever watched a group of friends hanging out, cell phones in hand...they're still hanging out. They're talking, laughing, and not just about what's on their screens. The point is that you're together, no matter what you're doing while you're together. And when you're not together,  you use your phone  to communicate with your friends. Inc sites an interesting study, but, you know, but why does looking at my phone have to make me smile? I'm obligated to interact with people I don't know? Not speaking isn't the same as being unfriendly.  Then there's the picture of the lower half of a woman's smiling face. Urggh. The world is always telling women to smile more, which is never not annoying.  I have a few issues with it, but I'd like to know what you think!

The Good Habits

Entrepreneur - How to Survive Your First Year of Self-Employment. Or your 15th year, even.  I like this list because it starts you off slow and basic. Watch your spending. Even if you have a good gig, keep marketing. Practical advice, and the tactics are up to you. There's a feel-good component, because you're probably already doing some of this stuff, so YAY.
