Tips For Wedding Pros: 5 Things To Look For On Your Venue Walkthrough

Elizabeth Coopersmith Consulting Virtual AssistantWhat's your role at the wedding?  Planner, DJ, caterer,  rental company? There are five things you HAVE to look out for on your first venue walkthrough:

1. Layout

Where are you and every other vendor going to be? Again, not just you, but everyone else, too. Scope out your space in relation to the rest of the wedding. Do you need a chair? More space? A table? How many of "you" are there?

2. Lighting

This is very important in an outdoor space - is there enough light where you're working? That's not inconsequential indoors, either - if you can't see, and no one can see you, that can be a problem!

3.Loading

How are you getting all your stuff into the venue? Is there an elevator? Is there a big enough elevator? Are there stairs? Do you have to stagger your load in time with other vendors?

4. Power

Do you need power? If yes, where is it? How far are you or any of the other electricity reliant vendors away from it? And, equally important, how strong is the power?

5.Guest Flow

Walk the path that guests will be taking through the venue. From the entrance to the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to dinner. What needs to be in their path? What needs to be out of the way? Now's the time to figure where and how to shift things around, if necessary. If it's possible (make it possible), do your walkthrough with the wedding planner or the venue manager. That way if you have any questions, they can answer them as soon as possible. What else do you need right now to improve your business process and workflow? Let's talk!
