Don’t Call It A Comeback

Hey! Yup, it's me, after a very long "hiatus". While 2021 hasn't been as, umm, dramatic, as last year, it's certainly eventful. Like you, I've been balancing last year's pivots/side gigs with this year's preparations. The newsletter (ugh, and my blog) fell to the wayside. Instead, I launched a couple of online courses, hosted a webinar series. As a really side gig-side gig, I'm recapping tv and movies for an entertainment blog, and it reminded me of why I like writing so much.

Things are opening up slowly, businesses are blooming, and as you coaches and creatives are getting back to work, I am, too. Just like you, I'm not having a comeback,'cause we were never really gone.

This Four for Friday celebrates our re-emergence, and the lessons we're bringing with us.

The Quote of the Week - More effort is wasted doing things that don’t matter than is wasted doing things inefficiently. Elimination is the highest form of optimization. - James Clear

p.s. Task elimination is one of three steps to scaling your business, along with delegation and automation. Actually, all three are forms of elimination, aren't they? Huh.

Tiny Victories

A couple of months ago, writer Annabelle Gurwitch was on Bill Maher's show promoting her new book. She mentioned her podcast 'Tiny Victories", which she started with comedian Laura House, because they were tired of so much negativity and doom scrolling . The podcast is only 15 minutes, so it doesn't take a lot of time to listen to, and it's filled with positive news and small wins, both personal, and shared by their listeners. It's a definite mood booster, and a great reminder to look up and give yourself some credit for whatever progress you've made so far. My tiny victory today? I finally washed out my smaller water canteen, filled it, and brought it in the car with me today. Stuff like that.

Inc. - How Small Business Evolved During the Pandemic and What Still Needs to Be Done

This is more of a checklist that you can use to pat yourself on the back, and maybe an impetus to jump on the one or two things you're not doing. Food for thought and victory laps.

New York Times - There's a name for the Blah You're Feeling. It's Called Languishing. I laugh every time I read the title, because yes, it brings to mind melancholy lounging on a fainting couch, right? And this was sent to me by a friend of mine who's a book editor, so that didn't help. "It wasn’t burnout — we still had energy. It wasn’t depression — we didn’t feel hopeless. We just felt somewhat joyless and aimless. It turns out there’s a name for that: languishing." Recognizing it helps. Engaging in "Flow" could be a cure. Click the link and find out more.

p.s. If this is hidden behind a paywall for you, BUT you have a LA Library card, you can access it the NY Times through the library website. That's how I got it.

Huffington Post - What Is Toxic Productivity? Here's How To Spot The Damaging Behavior. If you're nodding your head and thinking, "yeah, that sounds about right," dive in. The author uses the term "virtual work martyr", which definitely makes me feel seen.

What else do you need right now to take - or keep - your business at the next level? Let’s talk about it. Click here to schedule a 30 minute consultation with me, or go to my contact page.
