I KNOW The Desperate Search For Time And Wifi When You're On "Vacation"
I remember where I was this time last year...Twelve members of our families were showing up for Thanksgiving, the first set two days before Thanksgiving. In between buying plates and platters cookware (Martha Stewart I am not) I was rescheduling a marriage license drop before the weekend, patiently negotiating (still) with April's photographer, finalizing the venue contract for June's wedding, finding a rehearsal day for January's wedding. Oh, and finishing my website relaunch, all before every vendor and client left for the holidays, and hoping to get them all settled to the where we knew where we stood in December. And then December. Two more inquiries came in from Spring and Summer, and the back and forth to schedule consults, contracts sent and signed. Two more family members came to visit the week of January's wedding rehearsal, in the middle of completing their timeline - vendor balances, vendor needs, venue needs, couple needs, all which had to be handled by me.Christmas week, visiting family, spotty wifi, less time, more pointed glances when I disappeared to work. Starbucks, you say? None within walking distance, guilt-ridden because can't you put away your phone and spend time with us? Sure, just not as much time as I would like. When you're an event vendor, every vacation is a working vacation, it feels like.Minus "Working" = Actual Vacation Cue Fall 2018. One of my virtual assistant clients leaves town twice in November. Six invoices need to be sent and collected on in the meantime. She has back-to-back-to back photo shoots the weekend she gets back. The print shop connected to her online gallery needs to be turned on in time for Christmas cards and gifts . Before she leaves, she's got two potential clients she needs to talk to and book. While she's gone, another inquiry comes in. A photo shoot cancels, a couple adds a second photographer. Last year this stuff drove her crazy. This year she had me. I took care of the contract changes, sent the emails and the invoices, turned on the shop, scheduled the consults, so she could be present with her family and friends. If something came up and she needed it handled, she texted or emailed me and it was done. I wish I'd gotten a Me last year! And That's How #HandledForTheHolidays was BornHoliday season is both a blessing and a curse for event vendors.
