I don't know about you, but our proto-post-pandemic life right now has led to some deep wanderlust for me! Cities all over the world are opening up, airline tickets are still low, and it feels like it's time to venture outside to a new view that doesn't include a Zoom screen.
Not that we're going to leave our laptops behind - we are, after all, us. I've talked a little about this and how to balance working while you're on vacation (if you must). Pick two tasks at the most that you're going to accomplish while you're away. Trust yourself that you're going to get them done. That's pretty much it.
As always, my advice is to don't give yourself a hard time. If it's better to take the laptop, take it. But if you're going to take it, you should be prepared to use it.
This year, I'm already up to four trips, two of them scheduled at the last minute and one of them actually for "fun." Tech-packing for work is the easiest part because I'm already ready. I literally just pick up my tech bag, throw it in my suitcase or carry-on, and I’m good—no scrambling.
Here are the essentials I have in my tech travel bag that have proven reliable over the years. Three notes:
I'm an Apple girl - iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch, the whole nine. But everything listed can be easily found for PC and Android.
These are all links to Amazon, but if you're not a fan, you can find equivalents at Best Buy, Target, etc.

My favorite tech bag—Sadly, the one I'm using right now isn't available, but this is the closest to it. It has a double zip and room for adapters and multiple USB cables. Whatever you get, it's crucial that it fits the laptop adapter AND cord. This is the same size as mine, and I can drop it into my carry-on, purse or backpack without taking up too much space. If you need something a little prettier and don't mind spending more, try this one.
My Favorite 3-in-1 charger - is the UCOMX 3 1 Charging Station. It folds up so it’s easy to pack, and the first one I bought has lasted four years so far. I love it so much, there’s another one on my bedside table.
If you only have an iPhone and AirPods like my husband, UCOMX also has a 2-in-1 charger.
MagSafe mobile charger - try the Podoru for Magsafe Battery Pack
My favorite mouse is a Peibo rechargeable Bluetooth mouse. It's slim, super responsive, comes in multiple colors, and works for iOS and PC. It comes with a multi-charger that will hook up to your device, fully charged in an hour, and the charge lasts weeks, as long as you turn it off when you're not using it. That's not a typo- It's only $12.99, and it's so good I bought another one for my office. I love this thing.
My favorite wall plug - it goes directly into an outlet or into the wall, Three usb ports and two more outlets. Wherever you're going, you can't lose with this thing.
My favorite adapter - This one is strictly for Macheads, but it's that little dongle that turns a 3.5mm headphone jack into a lightning cable. Irritatingly , the headphone plug on my macbook is 3mm, so I carry jack headphones in my tech bag, with the adapter at the end of it. Take it off to listen to the laptop, put it on to listen to my phone. If you're worried about losing it, buy two.
Bonus - iPhone, mobile cord tip. As many times as we've been told not to put your phone on your bed stand, I bet, like me, you do it anyway. Travel is - or at least it should be - about comfort. Pack a 6-foot cable cord, so however far the outlet is it stretches.
